The Starhub League Cup 2014 draw has saw the Jaguars drawn into Group A with Albirex Niigata (S) and NFL Division One champion Police SA. Tanjong Pagar United General Manager Mr Richard Woon represented the Club for the draw held at Jalan Besar Stadium last Friday.

“It is difficult to say if a draw is good or not at this stage of the tournament. For me, it will only be a good draw if we advance to the next round,” stressed Jaguars Head Coach Patrick Vallée.

While Vallée noted that it will be tough as usual when facing Albirex, who have been around for 11 years, the Jaguars must not let up against NFL 2013 Champion Police SA.

The latter will have two familiar names in their squad who could prove a difference; Danial Razali formerly of Geylang International Prime League as well as former Jaguars head coach Tohari Paijan’s son, Firdaus Tohari.

“I think we have to be careful against Police SA because for them it is a very good experience and challenge to play against S.League clubs and they will play without pressure. Also, I think it is very good for Singapore Football that NFL teams are introduced to the Starhub League Cup.

For them it is very good exposure and for the future of Singapore Football it can only be a positive point. We are looking forward to the start of this League Cup and hope for TPUFC it will be a good year especially for our supporters.”

The annual cup tournament will take place between 7 to 25 July, with match fixtures yet to be confirmed. The top two sides in each group will advance to the quarter-finals while the bottom side will get to play for the Plate.
