Tanjong Pagar United will face Hougang United in the 2014 edition of the RHB Singapore Cup Preliminary Round.

The draw will mean that the Jaguars will face Hougang twice in two weeks. The team will first face the Cheetahs in a S.League away fixture on 21 May 2014 before facing them again in an unconfirmed date in the final week of May.

The Jaguars fell to a 1-2 defeat at Queenstown previously on 27 February after taking the lead courtesy of a Sebastien Etiemble goal.

Despite welcoming midfield maestro Kamel Ramdani back in the game against Geylang International, Patrick Vallée remained modest about the cup inspirations.

“Most people will remember Tanjong Pagar United’s 2013 season when we fought all the way to the final, defeating all the foreign teams. Of course, we want to try our best but we must not forget that this year all the S.League clubs have improved,” said the Jaguars Head Coach.

“We must also take note that Hougang is doing very well so far in the season. They have good players like Geison Moura and Shunsuke Nakatake who have the ability to change the game.”

However, Vallée remained confident of his charges when they take to the field.

“We may not be doing well in the league table, but I know my team. We have a team of players who hates to lose. Against Tampines and Geylang, we can see that the team spirit and morale is coming back. We did not win the two games…we should have won, but we must also remember that we were having an injury crisis.”

“And despite that, we did not get defeated against two very good teams. For that, I am confident we can give our supporters something to cheer about in the last week of May.”
