Versatile midfielder Marcus Adi Wheeler, 19, was given a vote of confidence by coach Patrick Vallée and the Prime Leaguer duly stepped up even though he was played in an unfamiliar role. Nonetheless, the tall and solidly built local Eurasian youngster relished the opportunity given and proved himself to be a big obstacle for the Young Lions.

Like Afiq Tan, Marcus also showed no frayed nerves on the pitch and repaid the faith of his coach and the Jaguars supporters. Unfortunately, he had to be taken out just eight minutes from time when while harassing a Young Lions player, he got hit hard in the eye from a flailing fist.

He said, “I was a bit nervous because I was starting in a foreign position. It made things a bit intimidating as it was also my first S.League game. I just got on with the game. It turned out to be a good win and the experience was worth it.”
