A new Cup competition awaits tonight as the Jaguars lick their wounds and prepare for a fresh assault upon the Starhub League Cup. Last week’s capitulation sent the Jaguars out of the RHB Singapore Cup and the Jaguars will look to this competition to make amends for a lacklustre season.

The White Swans await this time round and they too will look to this tournament for some silverware after DPMM bundled them out of the RHB Singapore Cup with a 6-4 aggregate score.

Head Coach Patrick Vallée won the League Cup in 2010 with the now defunct Etoile FC and will fancy his chances in this tournament. He will be banking on the likes of Monsef Zerka, Kamel Ramdani and Firdaus Idros to cause some damage in attack. Sebastien Etiemble can also threaten if given the space and he will look to assert himself in midfield.

The Jaguars crashed out in the Quarter-Finals stage last year, losing 5-2 to DPMM, after topping their table in the group stage. The team will be eager to better that record this season

The Jaguars have failed to beat the White Swans in the league, losing both games and the Starhub League Cup presents a good opportunity for the Jaguars to set the record straight, especially with both losses coming off the backs of superb performances.

Albirex Niigata will also most likely be banking on their scoring machine, Kazuki Sakamoto, in order to preserve their perfect record against the Jaguars.

Tatsuyuki Okuyama’s lads will also be eager to wipe off the memory of their Singapore Cup exit this year and will attempt to do so by winning this game. Kazuya Okazaki will also threaten if left to his own devices and the Jaguars know what they need to do to come out of this tie victorious.

As such, we have two teams good enough to win some silverware this season will face each other at Queenstown Stadium and if this season is anything to go by, the contest will be a very physical and entertaining affair. Don’t miss it!
