Here we are now at the Quarter-Finals stage of the Starhub League Cup and the Warriors will be the team standing in between the Jaguars and a place in the semi-final. Queenstown Stadium will once again be the venue and the Jaguars will be banking on familiar territory to be the crucial advantage over their opponents tonight.
The Jaguars enjoyed a good run in the group stages of the League Cup, annihilating the White Swans with a 4-0 score and followed that performance with a 7-1 demolition of Police SA. On the other hand, the Warriors fielded an under-strength team in their last group match against Geylang International and lost 4-0 at home, with their coach Alex Weaver coming under fire from the media for that move.
Though it appears that Alex Weaver may have decided the Jaguars to be an easier opponent as compared to facing Albirex Niigata FC in the Quarter-Final, the Jaguars are a different class of late. Head Coach Patrick Vallée has a full squad to choose from now and he can afford to tweak the team to confound his opponents.
Alex Weaver may be banking on the fact that the Warriors won 4-1 in the league tie against the Jaguars last month but he will do well to note that the Jaguars are not the same side this time round.
Firdaus Idros will be riding high on confidence after securing a hat-trick against Police SA last Sunday and the likes of Sebastien Etiemble and Kamel Ramdani will come into the game fresh, having been rested against Police SA.
Monsef Zerka has also been scoring consistently in recent times and he remains a danger to any team in the S.League. Captain Ahmad Latiff excelled in an attacking role in the past two games but it remains to be seen if he will start the same role tonight.
Warriors FC will quite, if not definitely, likely be fielding their full squad tonight and they will be fresh for the game. Agu Casmir will be on to look out for as he grabbed a hat-trick in their Group B victory over Tampines Rovers. The Warriors will also have Nicholas Velez and he will threaten if left to his own devices.
All said and done, Queenstown Stadium will definitely witness a thrilling clash tonight as both teams have shown desire to go as far as they can in this year’s Starhub League Cup.
See you there!
