We return now to the RHB Singapore Cup and tonight, the Jaguars will face Tampines Rovers FC at Jalan Besar Stadium in the first-leg of the quarter-finals.
Previously, at the same venue, the Jaguars almost walked away with a victory but the Stags were lucky to grab the equaliser through Noh Alam Shah and will come into tonight’s game on the back of a four game unbeaten run.
The Jaguars had a poor outing in our previous game against the Warriors but will be eager to bounce back in this competition and repeat last year’s run to the final but hopefully with a grand finish.
The Jaguars stunned everyone in the first round when we beat Hougang United and with all of the injured players back in the side, that might not be the only stunner to be witnessed in this Cup competition.
Kamel Ramdani, Sebastien Etiemble and Firdaus Idros have combined well in attack and Monsef Zerka will threaten if he makes it in time to recover from his injury. Captain Ahmad Latiff will want to make up for the last match and the Stags will find it hard to break the Jaguars defence.
The Stags made it to this round of the Cup rather scrappily and only through a penalty shootout win. Their opponents? The mighty Harimau Muda B. They have snapped up ex-Eagles targetman Jozef Kaplan and he has already impressed which is of course, unsurprising.
A lack of quality service in midfield will not bother him and he can carry the team in attack which will make him the man to watch for the Jaguars.
With the league proceeding far from rosy, the RHB Singapore Cup and the Starhub League Cup presents the chance for glory and the Jaguars have the quality to get some. Both sides will be fighting hard tonight but with the Jaguars showing to be the better side in Cup competitions, this first leg of the RHB Singapore Cup quarter-final is sure to be a hard fought affair.
See you there!
