Tanjong Pagar United VS Home United
30 October 2013
Queenstown Stadium
By Ong Jiing Yih
A simple question: would it be a tenth league win at the time of asking?
As the Jaguars welcome the Protectors to Queenstown Stadium, the terms ‘winning mentality’ and ‘fighting spirit’ have been gleaming loud and clear as always.
While their previous league win came in early August, zeal, endeavor and grit have ensured a share of the points on more than one occasion.
On the injury front, it remains to be seen whether the quartet of Sazali Salleh, John Wilkinson, Hafiz Nor and Ismael Benahmed can regain full fitness.
However, their loss was superbly offset by a gallant display of resilience just four days ago, in 1-1 draw which ended a run of two losses against champions Tampines Rovers at Clementi Stadium.
While it would be unfair to term this match as a dress rehearsal of the Singapore Cup Final, this is a good opportunity for the side to have a good understanding of how to take their opponents cleanly and effectively.
Focus is key and with league commitments still to be fulfilled, Patrick Vallee would never allow his cohort to get carried away.
Meanwhile, visitors Home United look to cement second place as they look to equal their next-highest league placing.
Even if title hopes have evaporated completely, Lee Lim Saeng’s charges have managed to string together a winning run and have overtaken Albirex Niigata.
The last-season spurge however has failed to hide the disappointment of coming short once again in the chase for that elusive S.League title, despite two recent wins.
If Lee Kwan Woo’s displays last Monday and Friday were anything to go by, the Jaguars have to be wary of their opponents who have already taken four points in the last two league encounters.
Show your support by turning out in droves for the penultimate match of the season. See you there!
