Prime League forward Afiq Tan made his impressive debut last game against Young Lions and that has earned him yet another start in the senior side against Woodlands Wellington.

This time round, the lanky but skilful forward made the all-important contribution with a direct assist to Monsef Zerka’s goal.

The Woodlands goalie had just intercepted and brought Firdaus Idros along with clearing the ball and looked set to securing it when along came Afiq. He beat the keeper to the ball and rounded him before evading an incoming defender with a shimmy to his left. Spotting Zerka in the box, his cross to the classy striker was precise and true.

Speaking afterwards, the shy youngster expressed more delight at the win than any personal performance.

He said, “I do feel happy that I get to contribute with an assist even if I did not manage to score. As long as my team wins, I am grateful for that. That’s all.”
