For almost 60 minutes, Ruzaini Zainal was trying to break down Tampines Rovers defense, but could not score his first goal for the Jaguars.
Yesterday evening saw Vallée’s faith in him paid off as Ruzaini was once again deployed on the wing to help out the attack alongside Zerka and Firdaus. His technique created several problems for the hosts’ defense and he finally netted the goal one minute after the second half kicked off.
Running into Geylang’s penalty area unmarked, Ruzaini spared no time and leapt to volley Tengku Mushadad’s freekick past Joey Sim, putting the Jagaurs ahead. It could have been a historic goal to give the Jaguars their first ever win in Bedok but it was not to be.
Despite that, Ruzaini expressed delight and hailed his teammates for displaying a strong spirit.
“Overall, I must credit the whole team. Even though we are depleted by injuries, we did very well to contain our opponents and we managed to score,” Ruzaini said. “We are just unlucky not to win tonight but the win will come soon so I hope our supporters can be patient and keep supporting us.”
Ruzaini added that he was “sure there will be more goals to come from him” and the fans were never far from his thoughts.
