Being one of the quieter clubs during the transfer window, Tanjong Pagar United managed to turn some heads with the announcement of Masrezwan Masturi and Firdaus Idros from Bishan Stadium.
Vallee cited the mentality and spirit of both players as one of the key factors that made him signed them for the club’s 2014 season.
“Each time I saw Masrezwan play for his team, it has always been either 100% effort or more. With him in the squad, it will give us more options as he is a very versatile player,” Vallee told tpufc.org.
Towards the end of last season, Masrezwan was pushed up to the front line and he duly delivered, scoring a magnificent volley against Balestier Khalsa in the first leg of the RHB Singapore Cup semi-final.
“He can play in many positions but his natural position is of a forward and I believe he will be able to score some goals when given the chance. But the key factor that made me bring him to TPUFC is his spirit and mentality. He never gives up and that is one important mentality I always want to have in our squad,” Vallee said of Masrezwan.
Another addition to the team’s attacking roster further increases the competitiveness of the squad.
“Firdaus is technically gifted as well as speedy. His speed and his attacking mentality will definitely give us more choices up front,” said Vallee.
“He is 27 years old and still has a lot of room for improvement. I believe he will improve and further contribute to Singapore Football in the future. What I like about him? He has very good technique and also his winning mentality. Last season we introduce the importance of the Winning Mentality to TPUFC. Firdaus fits our mentality and he will definitely bring more value to the club.”
