Home United VS Tanjong Pagar United
27 June 2013
Bishan Stadium
by Ong Jiing Yih
The Great Eastern Yeo’s S.League returns to action this week following a month-long hiatus, owing to the League Cup and more recently, the worrying haze.
The excitement brought upon by seeing the Jaguars in action is sure to be a welcome sight for all connected to the Club at least.
In addition, having ended their last two matches on a slight whimper, this is a great opportunity for the team to get back on track.
Standing in their way are Home United, as Walid Lounis, Hafiz Nor, Zahid Ahmad, Asraf Rashid and John Wilkinson all stand to face their former employers.
Back to the scene of the heartbreaking last-gasp loss last November, Anthony Aymard’s long-distance strike was only rendered a consolation.
Despite the best efforts of Shamsudin Hashim in goal that evening, which included a penalty save, the Jaguars’ effort went to nought.
Also, in order to right the wrongs of their 3-0 reverse earlier in March, the likes of vice-skipper Lounis, top scorer Monsef Zerka and Sazali Salleh are all chomping at the bit to impress as usual.
All three and the rest of the team have contributed to the Jaguars’ rise this season, and they have no desire to rest on their laurels.
Meanwhile, the Protectors have made it to top half of the standings after a slow start.
There has also been some form of progress in the cup competition, but for Albirex Niigata, the team they knocked out in the Singapore Cup, to toss them out of the League Cup altogether.
Their pursuit may shift back to the league title in which they have not won for 10 years, seen as a sore point for a club with lofty ambitions.
However, with Tanjong Pagar chasing a first win at Bishan in over a decade, and with the necessary personnel and tools to put things right, the match could turn out to be captivating indeed.
Kickoff is 7.30pm, this Thursday evening.
